I don't use Stellarium with OnStep, but I know that the startup sequence cannot be performed from Stellarium, because OnStep requires an align command followed by a set of syncs, or specific align on star command. On Mon, at 10:43 AM, bluescope wrote: do a quick step by step video how did you setup your OnStep in Stellarium, and what hardware are you using? I would be grateful for that.

If you want to play with Stellarium Mobile to see if you like it, there is a limited free version in the app store. It is a paid app in the app store but Fabien gave me a few promo codes for group members. It even supports the augmented reality feature on devices that have the appropriate magnetic and attitude sensor suite. It works much like the PC app, although the touchscreen interface is obviously different from mouse/keyboard, and is very responsive (at least on my SamSung Galaxy S5) given all that it must be doing. Stellarium Mobile Plus is a great planetarium app (IMHO) and has extensive object databases derived and updated from the latest online sources. Only the basic GoTo function and marker display is supported for telescope control so you have to do the initialization and alignment some other way. Although Howard said that this was required for resource management on the ESP, Fabien thought this was a bizarre way to operate and had no plans to implement it. Note that it does not currently work over TCP/IP (WiFi) because Stellarium does not function with the short connection lifetime (after each interaction, OnStep closes the socket). A few months ago, I worked with the author, Fabien, to iron out a few issues with the interpretation of some of the messages so if you like the Stellarium interface this is an option on both phone and tablet (I tested both).

If you use a Bluetooth connection, the Stellarium Mobile Plus app for Android also works with Onstep, correctly probing for the LX200 protocol. the telescope marker acts as expected at all times.

Telescope control using Stellarium PC direct via USB works fine for me, no Stellarium Scope required.
